Please join us for the official launch of our three new solo exhibitions, and our group exhibition titled National Interests: Australian Art in the 20th Century, at Hervey Bay Regional Gallery. Friday 28 February, 5.30-7.30pm
HBRG is proud to launch a new year of programming with three ambitious solo exhibitions by women artists with a connection to the region. This event also marks the arrival of additional works of art on long term loan from the National Gallery of Australia for our landmark National Interests exhibition.
This suite of exhibitions will be officially launched by special guest Adam Lindsay, Deputy Director of the National Gallery of Australia.
About the exhibitions:
In the Making captures the evolving artistic practice of Brisbane-based artist Natalie Lavelle, bringing together early experiments in abstraction and colour field painting with large scale monochromes and new works that expand into spatial installation.
Emma Thorp’s The In Between is an exploration of the challenges of motherhood as an artist, tackling the complicated desire to carve out time for oneself and art ‘in between’ life’s responsibilities.
In Family and Country, many people’s stories, Aunty Joyce Watson explores her ancestral connection to Waanyi Country in North West Queensland through stories of endurance and connection.
National Interests explores the cultural legacy of Australian Modernism in the 20th century, pairing works of art from the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery Art Collection with significant works from Australia’s national collection.
