Join local artist Ruthie Purnell for a hands-on workshop designed to help participants refine and prepare their wearable art creations ahead of the Waste to Art competition. Participants will receive creative guidance, practical tips and feedback to help bring their wearable artworks to life and presentation-ready for the judging and parade.

This session will cover:

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  1. Understanding when and how to use dust masks, respirators, gloves and other PPE when working with recycled and found materials.

Writing Your Artwork Description

  1. Learn how to create a compelling description that supports your design.
  2. Discuss important inclusions such as materials used, inspiration, sustainability elements, and the story behind your piece.
  3. Explore ways to create an emotional connection between your work and the audience.
  4. Review examples of effective wearable art descriptions.

Music and the Runway

  1. Tips for selecting music that enhances your wearable art presentation.
  2. Practise runway techniques and explore hints and tips for confidently showcasing your creation on stage.

Questions and Discussion

  1. Dedicated time for participants to ask questions, seek feedback, and discuss any challenges they may be facing with their designs.

Ideal for participants who have attended the Trashion to Fashion concept design workshop or have already started developing a wearable art piece and would like guidance on refining their work for exhibition or competition.

Workshop Cancellation Policy

Gatakers Artspace cannot accept responsibility for any changes in personal circumstances. Missed workshops or change of mind are at your own expense.  If a participant chooses to cancel their confirmed registration, or cannot or does not attend the workshop, the following will apply:

  • The registered participant may invite another person to substitute their place in the workshop (in which they are registered) at any time at no charge;
  • If notice is received 2 or less days from the scheduled starting date, a refund will not be offered;
  • If a workshop is cancelled by Gatakers Artspace a full refund or a reschedule will be provided. Gatakers Artspace will endeavour to advise participants of cancellation at least 48 hours prior to workshop.
